Saturday night was such a blur, I forgot to even mention how golf went during the day. My buddies hockey team was having a fund raiser that night, so, as we do every year, we play golf during the day and piss it up real good. We started off at 8am at Northview - the ridge course, where they use to hold the Air Canada Championship PGA Tour event each year. We arrived just before our tee times and didn't have much time to warm up at all. I hit a few putts and we were off. Normally, I like to hit at least 10-15 balls before I tee off just to get the swing going... but I've played many rounds beofre without a warm up, so that's just the way it was going to be. We decided to play "the tips" (which are the back tees) and see how hard this 6900 yard course really was.
It really didn't start off that great at all. I double bogied the first and second hole and all of the sudden I was 4 over par (A nice little pair of 6's to start the day... pfffft). I'd equate it to playing AQo out of position on the first hand of a tournament and donking off half your stack. Lots of work to do if you are going to make a comeback and record a respectible score. Fortunately there were 16 holes left to make up ground. Ok so I bogied the third hole. Great 5 over par! WTF, now I was starting to get choked. By this time I was starting to warm up, and still felt pretty good about my game in general, I just needed to stick to it and grind it out. I stick it 5 feet on 4 and miss for birdie. I lip out on 5 for birdie... still 5 over...
I smash a drive on the par 5 7th. I have 205 to the hole, downhill, down wind. I pull out 4 iron and put it about 40 feet. I make the right to left side hill bender for eagle!! woo hoo! Now i'm 3 over. Par the next one, birdie, par. 2 over on the front. I'll take it.
I played solid golf from then on in making a couple of more birdies, 1 bogie and get to the 18th hole. It's a short dog leg right par 5 (perfect for my cut that I naturally have learned to accept over the years) and I smash another drive and only have 9 iron in (140 yards)... I stick it and make the putt for my second eagle of the day! It reminded me very much of this round that I wrote about back in December when I was just starting out in the blogosphere.
So with that second eagle I shot 1 under (70) for one of my better come backs that I can remember. It always feels great to turn it around and play the way I know I can. If only... ahhh whatever, sometimes you just gotta battle back and not kick yourself to hard for playing AQo like a donkey. Suck it up, grind it out and bounce back! Be patient, be confident, be smart.
Now if only I could write a post about some sort of poker win, hopefully I can do that before I make another two eagles in one day... time will tell.

With respect Schaubs, reading about your golf pursuits makes me want to a) puke or b) practise!
Fawk. The only eagle I've ever had was a hole in one on a short par three.
