He Shoots, He Scores!!

Sunday, Day 10.

Not in the mood to talk about Sunday's ROUND ROBIN loss the the American's on our home ice. I'm just not, but I'll make a few notes just for posperity. It was a great game, but in the end the US proved to want it just a bit mroe than we did.

Round robin matches are like regular season games. They don't mean much unless you perform well in the playoffs. Sure it helps position you for some well deserved rest. Especially in this format where Canada will now have to play 4 games in 6 nights in order to obtain Gold status. Getting that extra game's rest is definitely a bonus to a teams like the US, Russia and Sweden where a majority of their team is made of of NHL stars.

NHLers have played up to 60 regular season games already. So when they can get an extra day's rest to prepare for a semi final match then they'll take it no doubt.

Sunday started off slowly for us, we have a lazy morning and basically all of our focus went into that 4:30 puck drop. We did watch a lot of Olympics on tv in the morning and early afternoon. So many events going on right now it is tough to recap all of the highlights. I guess the men's ski cross was the most dissapointing when our Canadian fell on the last bump and finished 4th overall.

That's 17 times now that Canada has placed either 4th or 5th in these Olympic games. I guess we can call this year the "Almost own the podium" year.

Within a minute of the hockey game the American's scored their first goal. Exactly what they had to do to take the crowd right out of it. We battled hard and layed 42 to shots on Ryan Miller who "stood on his head" throughout the contest.

Our next match is against those pesky Germans. As soon as we lost to the USA I was calling for Luongo to start. Hopefully that happens and he puts the team on his back and carry's us to the finals.

It won't be easy though. We now have to go through Germany, THEN Russia and THEN Sweden to get to the Gold medal game. It's gonna be a tough task, but I think we are up for the challenge. We have too much talent not to at least make it one of the best tournaments since the Canada Cup in 1987. Where the famous line was coined:

"He Shoots, He Scores!!"
