I is a RockStar, Golf, Poker, the usual stuff

Before I go on about how I am considering going pro in RockStar, I'd like to say it was a welcomed surprise to receive a phone call from Astin and the Eh-Vegas crew on Friday night (almost midnight their time) to do a dial-a-shot. Ironically, I had just done two consecutive ear burning shots at the local bar I was at for a fundraiser. It was great to hear a couple of familar voices in the background as I could here CK say "helrr-roh" and Bam-Bam shout out "Tiger sucks" or wait, now that I think about it I think he said "Tiger is the greatest ever!" I talked to Astin for about 5 minutes and he basically told me what I was expecting - everyone was pissed. I wouldn't expect anything less, of course.

Saturday morning was beautiful here, and I am sure you can guess what that means.... Schaubs is going golfing! This would be the second time I teed it up in 2008 and the first time at my home course this year. We went out as a threesome and decided to have individual matches against each other playing a $2-2-2 game with $1 KP's (there are 5, and if you win them all - it doubles). I wasn't too sure about how I would play, but historcally I have been able to hold my own when I have had a lot of time off. I can't explain why, but I seem to play a bit better than usual. I hit the range before we went out, and was feeling indifferent about what my game may bring me, all I knew was that the sun was shinning and it was the weekend. I couldn't really ask for much more on weekend in February.

I'm gonna stop right now with the details, because honestly, reading about someone's golf round is almost as bad as listening to someone talk about their round. It gets very boring, very quickly. heck, it's almost as bad as listening to a bad beat story sometimes. Really it just comes down to the person, and the golf story they are actually going to tell. If it's just going to be about all the near misses and chances and unlucky breaks that you were "dealt" then forget it. I do, however, make time to listen to someone tell me a hole or two without asking for a buck, but usually after that I zone out and find something else to do... like drink beer.

So here is the short version: Rolled in a 20 footer from off the green on #2 to steal the KP from Penski. Miss 4 putts inside 4 feet throughout the day. Chip in on 15 for birdie. Drove the green on the par 5 17th and made the eagle putt. Win all 5 KP's from Penski for $10 and win $25 overall from my two competitors.

The highlight of the day was obviously the 17th hole. The tees were up on this 290 par 4 as they were re-seeding the regular tee box and it was under construction. Therefore, the hole measured 245 yards in total and the pin was in the front left corner. You still had to carry the water (carry it about 230 yards) if you wanted to reach the green. Penski was up first as I had just bogied the 16th to make the match even. He stepped up and drove the green with his choked down driver. Not only was the KP sweep in jeopardy, but so was my chances of winning the match if I didn't step up and hit a good one. Well, I don't think I can remember the last time I hit a shot where I actually thought it might go in the hole right after I hit it. It was flying right at the stick and didn't move... landed 1 yard short of the pin, bounced of the pin and stopped about 8 feet away. I made the putt as mentioned, but still wonder if and when I'll ever get that elusive hole in one. If my first one ever comes on a par 4... then all the better! Oh well.

Saturday night I had planned to try and meet up with Fuel and CC as they were playing a 6 max tournament ($200+20). Neither of them did that great, so when I was done golf, they were already bounced. I think CC finished 25th and Fuel went down in flames early.

After the round Penski and I decided that instead of going to the Casino that we'd go over to our buddies house and watch the Canucks and have some more beers. We played donkey hour poker ($0.25/0.50, $10 buyin) and spewed off about 30 bucks each while we drank. There was also darts and foosball, so overall it was a great time. Then all of the sudden the Miller brother's come in and they have RockStar for PS3. They went home, packed it up, and brought it over.

Now this thing is much more than I expected. Especially the drums... actually I am not sure what I was expecting. Either way, it was awesome. I tried the drums and the guitar first, and pretty sucked ass at the easy level. All it takes is a little practice and by the end of the song I was starting to get the hang of it. The singing is where I excelled at, somehow. I grabbed the mike and jammed with the Miller brothers for a couple of songs and worked my way up to hard. Then I finally said "give me expert" - admittedly I was more than few beers deep at that point. I managed to pull off 86%, and apparantly that is good... so yeah, maybe I should go pro? Since I nailed it? Pfffft. I love drunk singing though, good times. Now I just need to find it for Wii, I hear it is coming out soon.

Sunday was filled with more sunny times. We hung out in Penski's back yard and played washers and drank beer. Went home in the afternoon and instead of watching the Oscars with Lola and the family (I refuse to watch the Oscars if I haven't seen any of the movies) I.... hmmmmm played poker! Obv.

I signed up for one of those 18 person SnG's - the $6 one where they award 4 tokens. I played like a tighty and remember reading Jordan's post about how tight you really should play in these things. Laying down double paint in EP is hard sometimes, but I stuck to it. At the same time, I played in $14 token frenzy and managed to win one of those as well. Bubbled in a $10 KO though so that kinda stung. Overall it was a great weekend.

Congrats to RecesseRampage for beating Fuel 3 straight! I never would have predicted that as I knew that Fuel was on quite the roll heading into the match. He even won 9 straight matches yesterday alone. Go check it out. Recess is already in the Finals and I can't even arrange to play my second round match... Where are you Wes?

Congrats to Hoy as well, 11K holy crap.

Vegas eh, not me this time, but soon...

A big "HAVE AN AWESOME TIME!!!" goes out to all of you who are on their way to Toronto for Eh-Vegas. I should have considered it more seriously, but in the end I just couldn't justify ANOTHER trip, when I have a lot coming up this year already. It's all about choices. Although after reading about Astin's planned menu, it would have been worth it just for the dinner on Saturday night. Crazy cook is he, I agree.

Have fun!

I need your opinion on what the best option is with regards to a Vegas trip. Here is the scenario:

If you had two days holiday days to use for a trip like this would you rather do:

1. Thursday night to Monday morning – Arrive late at night (around midnight before you sit down at a poker table) and be ready for the wedding which is Friday afternoon.

2. Thursday night to Monday evening – same thing, except all I know is leaving in the afternoon kinda sucks because you end up waiting around trying to find something to do, and you end up blowing the last two remaining hundreds that you had hoped to bring home with you. It still gives you more time to sleep in though, and you can check out some last minute attractions and hotels while your bags are checked with the front desk.

3. Thursday morning to Sunday night – Get there, get settled. Nothing is usually happening on Sunday night anyway. But then you have to go to work on Monday.

4. Wednesday night to Sunday night – An extra night in cost, but it might be the best option as far as getting in everything you want in such little time. I am traveling with a couple of newbies that have never been to Vegas. So I am sure they will want to do a bit of the tourist thing. With regards to the wedding, obviously we want to be in decent shape on the wedding day, and have enough time to recover from the craziness that will surely ensue throughout Friday evening and all of Saturday.... So it might be a bit tough to get up and leave on Sunday evening. This is why i need your expert advice people!

Of course, cost comes in to play too. I figure for 4 nights you can usually get a nice place for less than $700. For three nights, it’s about $550. To further the savings we will probably share a room with another couple. We can always pull the old “book a couple of flights only and then sneak in and shack up to save some money” maneuver.

Has anyone every stayed at Harrah’s? It sounds like that is the hotel of choice for the bride and groom.

Have a good weekend everyone.

The Tiger Woods of the Mookie

A HUGE congrats goes out to Surflexus who managed to pull of the victory last night in a heads up battle against NewinNov. That makes it 7, yes SEVEN, Mookie titles for Surf. Just awesome.

I made a prop bet with InstantTragedy last night on whether or not Mookie or Hoy would win a Mookie by the end of the year. He said no, so we made a friendly wager. I figure one of those two is going to win by December. Either of them could take it down at any given time, they just need a little lucksackreversalofthedonkeysuckout magic to ensure victory. One of these weeks one of them will get hit with the deck and take it down and I will have made some lunch money. Good luck boys.

Anyway, BDR was a blast. I have no idea how I did or how I sounded, but I know one thing... I had a fucking great time. So there is that at least. I didn't even have the actual radio on while I was talking so I never ever heard myself or how the conversations were sounding. But whatever, I'm not too worried considering the peak listenership was somewhere near 40 or so at one point in the show. Not that that matters, I think this show is great stuff and I look forward to coming back... if they'll have me.

I played in the Mookie and the Dookie last night, while chatting it up and eventually donking out (you be the judge) in the Mookie. I don't see how I can get away from QQ in the SB, but somehow I need to learn how to lay that down when it is obvious that the raising player has a big hand. I think the blinds were 120/240 or so, there are 20 people left and I was in good shape with about 5300 chips. He raised to 1200 or so (there was an EP limper too who eventually folded), I pushed and he inst-O-called. He flipped over his Aces and that was that.

The Dookie worked out a little better. I didn't plan on paying much attention but once we got to the final table I tried my best to play my game and it worked out well as I took the thing down for a nice $45 win. I know, big buck big bucks, but a win is a win. PLH is a game I enjoy and have had some decent success at, so it was nice to get back into the winner's circle again, even if it was the donkfest otherwise known as the Dookie. I think that is my 3rd Dookie now, although I'd trade all three of them for a Mookie title most def.

The BB3 is upon us so start stacking up those tokens (big and small) and get ready for another 3 months of poker grindage.

Don't! Don't! Don't believe the hype!

Time for some pimpage and some linkage:

First off, there's a very good chance (I'd say better then my Jacks beating your AKo) that I will be chiming in on BuddyDankRadio tonight. I've got all the hardware and software in place now, so hopefully that works out. I am not sure what I'll be able to contribute in terms of content, but at least I have an excuse to do some excessive drinking and what not. Tune in and check it out! I'll probably just lay low and attempt to keep the conversation light and unannoying. I know based on my limited listening experience that it can often turn into the BuddyDoosh show if there isn't much to talk about. Make sure to drop a comment on the BDR website comments section if you think its starting to suck balls. It works out well, because Lola is off to watch some ATM... err I mean some ANTM tonight with her lady friends... which means I can crank it up! See you there, and see you at the Mookie and the Dookie. Thanks for this Mookie.

While all of that is going on, make sure you look up Fuel55 and find his BloggerDeathMatch table and watch the skillededest of the bloggers put up their big bucks and try to beat the self proclaimed God of Poker. Will someone please shut this guy up already? Nice password Dr. Fag.

Other linkage for no reason at all:

I've found this bloggercrusher dude amusing lately. He's hasn't posted much lately, and it seems that no one can really figure out who the hell he is... which is always fun as it seems to create even more drama than usual. I've heard some rumblings that it might be Hoy or someone like that, but still no definitive proof. Anyone out there good at analyzing writing styles? Will someone please out this guy already?

Jordan over at HoP pointed out a few other interesting blogs that I think you would also find good time wasters (a little late to the party I know I know). So go check those out while you are eating your microwaved lunch.

No news on Round 2 of HUC6. I can't seem to get in contact with Wes... although I think he is on vacation. I guess I'll keep practicing at the $2 tables for now. I don't see myslef beating this guy, however Fuel has given me some great insider info. on his game so I will try to use that to my advantage whereever possible.

See ya tonight.

FCPC deepstacks recap-cap... did I just get scammed?

I just spent 20 minutes writing a great recap. Googlefucker fucked me over and nothing was saved. Fuck you googlefucker.

Here is a recap of my FCPC recap:
  • I was card dead for the first 2 hours and played 2-3 hands max.
  • Made the final table with my starting stack.
  • bluffed an inexperienced player with 62o and made her fold her pocket 4's - used table chat to induce a fold with comments like "there's no shame in folding", "I'm a very tight player" and "I've got a very strong hand" and it worked.
  • Lost a critical hand where my A10o couldn't hold againsts KJs.
  • finished 4th place and made $20.

----

Since I lost my other post I guess I will just write a bit more to satisfy myself.

Saturday night Lola and I went to the Canucks game. We decided to head downtown early to enjoy the sun and do some shopping. As we were heading back to the car this guy came up behind me and the following conversation took place:

Toothless guy: "Excuse me, but can I ask you a question? I'm not from around here. I just got here and I live in Halifax." He wore an old Canadian flag hat, old garbage like clothing and had a disgusting scruffy old beard that hosted who knows what...

Me: "Sure, what's up?"

TG: "Well, you see I am trying to raise another $4 so that I can get a room at the YMCA for the night. Can you spare some change?"

Lola: "Sorry I don't have any change"

Me: I look at Lola and can't figure out if she wants me to give the guy some money or if she is telling me that this is a scam. I dip into my pocket and all I have are bills. I pull out a loose $5 bill and I give it to him. I was feeling generously karmatic at the moment and felt like it was my time to give to someone who was less fortunate. After he left Lola told me that there was this lady behind me give me the "don't do it" type of a look. Of course, I didn't see this and Lola didn't say anything.

I just got scammed! It didn't feel like it was a scam though, and I still insist that part of it was true. It bothered me for the rest of our walk. In fact after we were completely done shopping I spotted the guy again.

Sure enough he was up to his old tricks again outside of Starbucks. I decided to hang out and watch him as he swindled another few bucks from another unsuspecting couple. Eventually the toothless wonder wandered back over to us... and asked us the same question AGAIN!

This was the final nail. I looked and him with a blank stare and said nothing. Lola looked at him, laughed and said "you just asked us the exact same question 10 minutes ago... don't you remember?"

He blankly mumbled something and made it seem like he was confused. He appologized and said he still only needed $4 to get a room and that he be ok.

Ok sure pal. You fucking liar. I hate being lied to right to my face. I fucking hate it.

A part of me still thinks I did the right thing, the other part of me is telling the honorable part of me that I am dumb ass and that I just got picked off and my weakness was exposed. I am a sucker. Although I've never given money to someone on the street before so I figure that I owe someone something out there...

Do I still get karma points? Time will tell.

6 max hand BB vs. SB

I usually hit the 6 max table right after work and grind it out for no more than an hour. After dinner I decided to go back to the table for another 30 minutes...

I shut the computer off and ranted for about... 1 minute about this hand to Lola. Then realized how much variance does suck ass in a majorly ass sucking fucking way. I don't think I made the right decision on any street though so whatever... I wasn't happy about the fact that I didn't raise it pre-flop. I'm not going to say I would raise it 100% of the time in this spot, but I think it was warranted here as I had been consistently aggressive. I don't think he folds anyway:

Seat 1: Studi ($46.95 in chips)
Seat 2: Lola ($27.30 in chips)
Seat 4: sørven ($21.70 in chips)
Seat 5: Ravenater ($12.80 in chips)

Ravenater: folds
sags1866: folds

Studi: calls $0.15
Lola: checks <---- If I make my standard raise to $1 then I think he probably calls (his stack is deep enough)... but I guess I'll never know that!
*** FLOP *** [8s Qd 9h]
Studi: bets $0.75
Lola: calls $0.75 <---- now that I think about it, raising here would have been a good play too... who knew...
*** TURN *** [8s Qd 9h] [Qs]
Studi: bets $1
Lola: raises $1.75 to $2.75 <---- Now I raise here hoping he does have a Queen, but I don't really consider that he may have flopped two pair or a set (although he would raise with 99 or 88)... bad bad poker. I probably should just call here if I think I am already beat and try to control the pot on the river.
Studi: raises $4.75 to $7.50 <--- At the time, I knew he had a Queen, but never thought to myself... "gee I wonder what his other card could be"
Lola: raises $18.80 to $26.30 and is all-in <---- awwww fuck it, all or nothing!
Studi: calls $18.80
*** RIVER *** [8s Qd 9h Qs] [9s]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Studi: shows [Qc 9c] (a full house, Queens full of Nines) <--- Fuck a Duck!
Lola: mucks hand
Studi collected $52.60 from pot
Lola leaves the table (in disgust!!)
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $54.60 Rake $2

Seat 1: Studi (small blind) showed [Qc 9c] and won ($52.60) with a full

Seat 2: Lola (big blind) mucked [Tc Jh]

If not for this hand my 6 max roll on PS would be at an all time high.

Keep grinding.

HUC 6 - Round 1, PIP Wii

I scheduled my match with knightsridge to be played at around noon on Saturday as he lives in Scotland and is 8 hours ahead of me. This would work to my advantage as I think he had already started drinking in the early evening of his weekend. I, however, was still hung over from the night before. I rarely drink hard booze, but somehow found myself slamming my last double vodka at 2am as my group told me that we were about to leave. We had planned ahead and had a hotel room booked down the street. It was a great call because after I hit up the $2 pizza place I was fast asleep about 45 minutes later.

I woke up with a pounding headache, but was determined to make it home in time to ensure I didn't have to reschedule. I've read in numerous places about how hard it is to actually get seated in HU match with someone you are intending too... and all the reports are true, it's a bitch! Anyway, we finally got a table together at FT (I suggested this because of the rematch feature) and we were off and running.

It was a good match, I know they won't get any easier that is for sure.

----

Saturday night we had a couple of friends over and I was finally able to set up my entertainment system the way I have wanted it for over a month now. Then, as we were playing around with the settings we realized that I could set up my Wii on PIP and play it while we were watching the Canucks game! Although it was a little bit small in the bottom right corner, bowling was probably the best game for this. We didn't even try any other games actually, we just kept bowling. I still am yet to beat Lola's high score.

I've also set up the original Nintendo so that it can also be played. In fact, at one point after the hockey game 2 people were playing the Wii tennis full size, while someone else was playing Super Mario Bros. on the PIP. Good times.

----
Congrats to Chad for his recent 35th place finish last night. I watched him for a while and he was handling the big stack at the table very nicely. Good job.

Final Answer & my new investment strategy

Holy crap! Over 5,300 players in the first FTOPS event? That is just plain nuts if you ask me. It's funny because when Goat commented on how how many people he thought it would be I thought he was totally exagerating... I guess there are a lot of Fult Tilt members out there that just decided to buy in directly like I was sillishly contemplating.

I appreciate all the great advice I received yesterday. In the end, I sided with the majority of the comments (by my scientific calculations anyway) and decided that, for various reasons, I was not going to put up the $216 and dent my roll in a major way just to satisfy some sort of urge or need.

Bam Bam's quote was quite fitting:

"Desperation and desire, the creation of a poor man. Innovation and intellect, the creation of something special."Howard Hughes (pre-looney-tunes)

I even had some advice from a self-proclaimed A-lister (who can argue with him anyway when he is the champ):

"Wait until your game is where you need it to be. I'm not saying top notch...but where you say, I'm feeling good enough to take a shot."

That says it right there. I am just not ready (although I sometimes question whether I will EVER be ready). My game is not ready, and my poker midset is not on point. In the end, it was a smart decision and when I woke up this morning, I still had an extra $216 in my poker account. That's like a win right there.

A big congrats goes out to JoeSpeaker who put his money up and ended up finishing somewhere around the 350 mark for a cash of double his buyin. Well done sir, keep running good and keep that game tight and squeaky clean.

So after looking at the schedule, the only tournament that I realistically want to play in now is the main event. I plan on taking that unspent money and using a portion of it for satellites. If I don't make it after 2-3 tries I will just fuck it all together.

However, I've come up with a new way to blow some money: Buy some action of other bloggers... Yep, I mean why not put my money behind some of the best poker players I know. So if you think you'd like to sell a portion of your stake, then let me know. I'm setting a side about a hundo to gamble with. I'd like to spread it out over a few people, although I am not sure anyone will take me up on the offer.

Let's say the cost of a particular tourney is $216. Well I'll buy 1% for $3. That's not a bad return right there. 5% for $15 and so on. I'll rail you, trash talk others and do whatever I can to ensure you go deep in the tourney. I think I'll probably have more fun doing that then stressing over whether I should call OOP with my pocket 4's in the BB.

Which brings me to my current struggle. I constantly am faced with those types of OOP calls these days. It's something I must really work on. I must have seen 77, 66, 44, AQo and 99 OOP within the first 30 minutes of the Mookie last night, and I just couldn't seem to get anything going. It just never felt right at the time. I was always saying to myself "man not again, another decent (not great) hand and I have no idea if I should be calling or raising". Especially since the Mookie moved to 1500 chip starting stack. It made those decisions even harder in the early goings. I need to adjust and learn more that is for sure. I remember doing very well a while back when it was 1500, maybe I played a lot tighter back then, right now I'm just not sure what the difference is.

I'd have to say my preflop calling range is all over the map right now and I just can't seem to find the right formula of when to fold, when to raise etc. Post flop I seem to be more comfortable. I am not sure why, but that is where my head is at these days. It actually kinda sucks when I have that feeling of confusion and the clock is ticking and I can't seem to pull the trigger either way. Post flop I can usually recognize when someone has missed, and I make the effort take the pot away right there.

I've started watching season one of the Wire, and so far it is really good. I wouldn't say totally awesome, but good. I guess watching it late at night might have something to do with it too. Whatever it is, I am already hooked and it's only episode 3. Good stuff.

Can't WAIT for LOST tonight, that show is the best thing going right now.

----
Are there any bloggers already in event #2? My best guess would be this guy for sure. If you haven't read his PLO strategy yet, I suggest you do. He's got to be the best Omaha player I know and really has done very well the past few months. Keep it up, and take that thing down tonight! Time for a blogger to go deep and represent!

Bankroll mismanagement? - help

My one and only try at qualifying for FTOPS event #1 last night and who is sitting directly to my left but none other than JoeSpeaker. It tooks us a few hands each to even realize that we were in fact right beside each other in this 97 person field. I went out around 25th (when I gave it the aw-fuck-it and threw my chips in when I knew for certain I was dominated... hoping for a race...and it wasn't... but it was gambling time I told myself) and Speaker was still in it with a healthy stack when I signed off. Hopefully he was able to get one of those three seats for tonight's event.

I've been tossing around the idea of doing something really really stupid. Which is - buying in directly to one of the FTOPS tournies. Please here me out before you chastise me:
  • I'd be donating around 1/4 of my entire bank roll to play in tonight's event.
  • The money I would be donating would be "free money" as it has come from other sources other than poker
  • I've never played an FTOPS event
  • My expectations are very low, and I am 90% cetain this is a donation... me? get in the money? win? Ha.
  • The money doesn't mean much to me in the sense that it's just sitting there anyway, waiting to be used for blogger tournies or the odd 6 max cash (which is like 4 or 8 BI's).
  • I really want to play in an FTOPS event this time around
  • I rarely play in big field events for big money
  • you only live once
  • Instead I could cash that money out and save it for a Vegas trip (so far I have one in May and one in July scheduled)

So those reasons are pretty basic, and only a couple of them really make sense as to why I should fork over the 2 hundo to play in a 1000+ person event.

Please give me your thoughts as I am currently on the fence here and need a reason to pull the trigger either way. I mean what else could I do with that money?

Do you agree with this statement? : If you can't satellite into the event, then you have no business playing in the event in the first place.

I'll be at the Mookie tonight either way. I'll also be watching the Big Cash Game that the Big Shots (and some small shots) will be playing in. I think that goes off at 8:30 left coast time.

----

Other randomness (non poker):

  • Lola beat my ass in bowling last night. Her high score: 182. Mine: 146. Wiiiiiii.
  • My Wii tennis game is easily the best out of the Wii Sports games... even though I am a golfer first and foremost (I honestly haven't given golf that much of a chance yet). I guess it comes from all my badminton back in the day coupled with my pickleball expertise that I picked up in high school.
  • I had a dream last night that I won a Grammy Award, and then when I went to read my acceptance speech... I was given some other crap and I was totally embarassed.
  • It really sucks that every show that I watch weekly is now on Thursdays. I heart my PVR.
  • My PVR sucks LOL. There are so many little things that I think they can improve on and I am constantly getting annoyed with the inventor's lack of vision. I guess its the first step in many versions to come, but still some of the most basic things are missing.
  • I really need to get to the driving range soon and get out and play some golf! The weather here has been shitty, but not cold enough that I can't at least pound some balls to let off a little steam.
  • The Canucks are 20-0 this season when they have the lead heading into the 3rd period... The only problem is, they haven't had the lead heading into the 3rd in 10 straight games now... They are terrible at coming from behind and their recent slide into 9th place supports this. Pick it up suckas!

Is 11 straight really within reach?

I am a believer now. This is the one record that I said could not be broken. It's amazing to think that Tiger could actually pull this off. If he can do this, then there is no telling when the next time will come where someone will actually have a chance to win a tournament that Tiger is playing in. Tiger has now proven that he can come from behind and chase down those chokers. If Tiger is in the hunt, the leader tends to choke more often then not. Tiger is technically 9 wins in a row (if you say they have to occur in one calendar year) away from tying Byron Nelson's 11 consecutive wins record. Can he break it on his way to breaking Lord Byron's 18 wins in one season at the same time?

I've said it here before and I'll say it again: I would be completely and utterly crushed if I it ever came out that Tiger was caught taking HGH or worse yet... roids. Fuck that would be then of my Tiger support right then and there. Until I hear otherwise though, I am a 100% Tiger guy. The more he wins, the more I cheer for him. The bigger the margin of victory the better if you ask me.

Tiger said it best yesterday: "I like [winning] by seven or eight a lot," he said. "It's a lot less stressful."

I could care less if people find it boring, the man is going to go down in history as the greatest EVER.

I heard Junior Seau talk about this (being classified in the "ever" category) yesterday during the Superbowl Pregame show.... and I couldn't agree more.

We all want to be known as the best ever, but most of us just settle for "very good" or "great" or "one of best in his era" but it is very very rare to be the one who is in that special category that we all strive for... It's one of those extremely rare (Gretzky like) categories that only the very elite and magical can stake claim to.

Not much to say about the Superbowl... too bad Patriots!!

All I can say is... what goes around comes around.

Back to Back Mannings!!

----

I moved up levels on FT and am now dabbling in $0.25/0.50 with a little bit of success. Still too early to tell. This guy and this guy have been a big help so far. They solidfied my pre-flop raising requirements as well as my re-raising range. This is going to be a big help moving forward and I expect to see more positive results because of it.

I'm playing this guy in my first round match in HUC6. It might be a bit tough to find a time where we both can play considering he is from Scottland... but I am sure we will work it out soon enough.

Have a good week everyone.

A Payne-ful reminder

Today would have been Payne Stewart's 51st birthday....

To think about what could have been is rather depressing. The man who wore plus fours with pride and sported a new NFL team ensemble each week in his later years... I'll never forget witnessing him make that putt on the 18th hole to win his second US Open over Phil in 1999.

Go check out Bam Bam's latest post where he reminisces about the times that matter the most... the good ol' days...

Happy Birthday Payne, we miss you very much.

I've suddenly found the urge to become a better golfer and a better person all at the same time.

After all, there's always room for improvement in everyone's game of life...

Snow Day ='s Poker?

Not for me damn it! For some reason I decided to jump in the car and make the trek to work anyway only because I knew how much work I had to get done today. It snowed about 8 inches over night here and there are only 4 people in the office as of now. I should have stopped and thought about that a bit more because I could have easily jumped on the pussy train and called in and worked from home. Right now I'm saying to myself "what was I thinking?!"

I could have been playing poker or better yet, Mario galaxy! I'm yet to even turn that game on, although I have browsed through instruction manual (ok the first two pages so far) to get a feel for the game. I can't wait to play it!

Over the weekend I gave myself 3 shots at qualifying for FTOPS event #8 (the lowest buyin ='s the most donks) and let's just say I don't have a screen shot showing me finishing in the top 2 of one of those $6 knockout qualifiers. The closest I came was 10th when my AA got cracked by KK in a SB vs. BB special. Such crap. I limp, he raises, I re-raise, he re-re-raises and I push. He rivers a straight of course. Alan was there on the rail and had to comment when he saw that beat. Gross is right. The funny thing is, I had one of those "feelings" where I just said to myself "uh oh, here we go" as soon as the cards were flipped.

As far as 6 max goes, this was a pretty good weekend for me. I won a couple of BI's so I am now floating in the 150 zone. The money is great, but the fact that I am starting to feel more confident and my game is starting to get better is the best part about it. I think once I hit $200 I will give $0.25/0.50 a shot, but not any sooner than that. I know it's still pretty short bank roll wise but I can't wait any longer! The skill level is going to be the same, however I'll just have to keep an eye out for the better players and focus on the weak ones.

I do have some noticeable leaks though. I mean when you are hitting the call button and you already know you are beat, that's a major problem right there. Like Jordan has said many times... when you know you are beat... FOLD.

Live and learn, I'll get there.

Anyway, no HH's today. I presume those were getting a bit boring for some of you. I know I can only take so many HH's when I visit your blogs day in and day out. It is nice to have some variety on the blog. Not just the same old boring dribble.

So moving foward I'll try to mix it up a little while keeping the updates going.

----

Let me just talk golf for a second. Does anyone realize what they are witnessing these days with Tiger? I hope that some of your are, and that you are taking the time to soak it in. He just tied Arnold Palmer for 62 career PGA tour wins... yes that's right 62 in 13 years. That is so fucking ridiculous... I hope that each and every one of you takes the time this year to witness this man as he HITS his prime. Note that he is just approaching his prime, he is not there yet. He is just getting better and better. Most PGA tour pros do not even make their mark until there are in there early to mid 30's, Tiger is 32 and has 62 wins. Think about that for a second.

There have already been predictions that this year will be his greatest year of his career to date... (better than 2000) Nick Faldo went as far as to predict that he will win the single season Grand Slam of golf (winning all four majors in the same calendar year). He already has the "Tiger Slam" where he won all four in a row over the course of two years... but this year could be THE year. Heck, every January for the next 10 years we could be talking about that very same humanly impossible accomplishment (for anyone other than Tiger).

He is on a completely other level. Period. No one can touch him, catch him or even sniff what he will accomplish when it is all said and done. Breaking the all time wins record will be a breeze and he will easily be in the 3 digits for wins by the time he retires. Breaking the all time Majors record is completely within reach as well... in fact I'm setting the over under at 25 right now. Any takers? All of the records will be shattered by the time he decides to retire and not play on the Senior Tour... although this is Tiger we are talking about so it wouldn't surpirse me one bit if he played in it "just for fun."

It just goes to show you that there are no limits to how physically and mentally dominating you can be at something (anything) if you really put your heart, mind and soul into it.

----
I didn't play any live poker this weekend, I just didn't feel like slugging it out when I could be sitting in my living room playing online instead...

Ok that's it for today... time to go and make some snowballs! errrr, I mean work...

6 max update part 4... almost the Wii-kend

Ahhh Friday. Sometimes the week just flies by and then boom, the weekend is here. For me, I hope it to be a fun Wii-kend for sure. I haven't cracked open Mario Galaxy just yet, but plan on doing so at some point for sure. I also plan on playing a bit of live poker on Saturday night. I'll probably just slum it up at the $1/2 table to get my feet wet and then consider moving up if I get a nice stack going. I just have to remember that it's not 6 max, its full ring!

The one thing that is starting to annoy me already about the Wii is all the training and practicing they make you do (although I guess it is with good reason). It is boring though. Hit the target (snooze), match your oddly shaped Mii into a bubble (not bad), make a bunch of useless pool shots (been there, done that) etc. All of this just so that I can play the tank game? Lola and I gave up (took a break) once we got to the billiards. I just want to play that Cow racing game and the tank game, yet I have to complete all these mundane tasks first in order to get there? So ghey.

The funny thing I noticed right off the bat is all the other Mii's that hang around and the details that are involved in these games. I am sure I haven't even seen the half of it, but it is pretty cool to be playing table tennis and see your other Mii's on the sidelines cheering you on (this is actually the only thing cool about table tennis/ping pong as the game itself actually sucks balls). Lola and I are more addicted to creating Mii's right now then anything, good times.

When I sat down after work (which is becoming a routine for me) to play for an hour before dinner I had a good feeling that I would play a bit better this time. Less distractions (play before Lola gets home) are the key.

I started off poorly (again) but I am glad the guy showed his cards on this one:

I pretty much folded and stay afloat for the next 42 hands and cashed out up a BI. The distractions were increasing and I was getting hungry... These are the signs that I need to continue to recognize that it is time to quit and come back later.

Have a GREAT Wii-kend everyone!

6 max update part 3... I am a Wiitard...

I bought the Nintendo Wii on Friday and boy was it ever a grind to get it. First off, the store I went to a week ago said that they had them in stock, but they weren't allowed to sell them until the scheduled release date which was last Friday. Confused and determined to get one, I decided that I would leave work that morning and line up in the zero degrees weather. The store only had 21 available for sale and they opened at 10am. I left work at 9am and got there just before 9:30. As I approached the parking lot there was already a long ass line and I was getting a bit worried that my chances of Wii happiness and joy would be crushed right then and there.

I got in the line and counted off the number of people in front of me. 11. I down graded my stress level immediately and tried to stay warm. They handed out numbers and when it was all said and done, I got number 15 (wouldn't ya know it, my favorite number!). I grabbed the extra controller, nunchuck and another game - Super Mario Galaxy. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play it yet as I away all weekend.... but I suspect that my poker play might take another back seat for a while.

Even when I do play poker, I am not two or three tabling. I am usually watching the news, eatting dinner and talking to Lola. So you can see how easy it would be for me to lose focus and donk off a buyin. I've got some bad habits I need to break if I am going to take a serious run at this six max thing.

This is just a long winded way of saying that I am a retard (Actually I like Wiitard). If I am going to play poker FOR MONEY then I need to devote my attention to the game. Plain and simple. Yes, I know I know, I sound like a broken record. But it's the truth. There is a lot of opportunity to make some money in this game, and I am letting it pass me by. I am in no rush to become the next six max expert by any means. However, I do find it frustrating when I actually sit down to play, and then I don't even take it seriously.

Anyway last night I wasn't running that well at all. The good news was that I realized this and decided to call it quits early into the session. This is something I am working on and so I guess I can take that away and look at it positively.

I am not sure what to call this one... except shitty. What a river, I knew I was beat when he raised the river, yet I called anyway. Terrible.

Let me have it! I deserve it.

So the roll took a hit, but I'm not going anywhere... time to Wii it up!

Any suggestions on the next game I should buy? Obviously it's going to be some form of Guitar Hero, but I now here that there is a new one out that you can actually sing and play the drums as well... I think it's called Rockstar or something like that.

Going to the Canucks tonight (I heart free tix) so hopefully they can stop the bleeding and get a win against those lousy St. Louis Blues.

I've played a ton of hands since I last posted with some decent success. I appreciate your feed back so far.

Here is a hand in which I think I played extremely poorly, but it still worked out... any thoughts? I had been at the table for about 25-30 hands now and haven't entered a pot much at all. How can't I get credit for a big hand...

Seat 1: Lola ($27.50 in chips)
Seat 2: vpams ($25.20 in chips)

Seat 5: bwokkie (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 6: WhiterNole (big blind) folded before Flop

So other than my busted up check raise, I think getting all the money in on the turn as planned anyway still worked out nicely...

After that I just kept it simple and cashed out up almost two BI's. Still learning. My roll now sits at just under a hundy. Weeeeeeee.

----

I played my first round of 2008 on Sunday. I didn't play that well as I was nursing a massive hang over. I played ok. 5 doubles, 2 birdies, 3 bogey's for a round of 81 (par 70).

My first golf goal is for that to be my worst round of the year. I hate shooting in the 80's... although since it was my first round of the year (and my first round in 3 months - see fairweather golfer) I guess I won't be too hard on myself.
----

Congrats to LJ for taking down $12K in a live tourney in AC. Total awesomeness.

So far it's been pretty fun, yet frustrating. I'd like to move up levels, but this type of hand above is bound to happen once in a while. I just hope I get better and am able to avoid these situations from time to time.

Sticking with my BRM promise to myself, I'll be moving back down a level for a little while (hopefully a very short while).

6 max challenge

My 6 max journey has commenced. I have a bit of money over at Pokerstars so I though I would dedicate this for the sole purpose of 6 max for a while and see where it takes me. So far I have been able to double my little tiny bank roll and it now sits at Fifty little ones.

One thing I've noticed right off the bat is how passive some of the play is. Of course, I am play at levels that are so small (see bank roll management) that the game seems very beatable right now.

The key is, as we already know, being the aggressive one at the table. Using this aggresive image to your advantage at the opportune time and crushing your opponents into submission and taking all of their chips!

I don't know why I haven't given 6 max a try until now. I mean sure I have jumped on a couple of tables here or there in the past, but I have never really "challenged" myself in this way before.

The question that remains is what levels I should be starting at, and at what level of bank roll I should move up at.

Assuming that my first goal is to turn this $50 into $500, where should I start? I think the lower the better, just so that I can handle the unavoidable swings that are expected... but how low is too low?

It feels weird starting off at such low limits, but that is the whole point of this challenge so I'm gonna stick to it and see where it takes me.

However it turns out, it should be a learning experience and I hope to improve this part of my game. I often find myself playing 4-6 player live cash games so I hope to apply this experience online now.

----

I've started a new blog. I won't be mentioning it here again, although there will be a link to it on the right. You'll just have to figure out which one it is...

Anonymity is key.

Have a good weekend everyone.

PLO Skillz, RIP Fantasy NHL, Poker Goals

I played in the blogger SKILL series last night. I wasn't planning on playing in it at all... but how can you resist PLO high? With knockouts? Talk about dead money. I've had some mild success over the past year in this game, so I thought I would give it a shot. This would be the first time in 2008 that I would take a seat at a poker table (virtual or not) and look down at not just two cards... but four!

I went out early. Really early.

I am not sure if you would call it a set up hand, but it sure felt like one. It folded around to me in the SB and I call with Kc-10c-10d-7h. Alcanthang raises it up POT and I make the... loose call?

Anyway, I flop a set of tens and check intending to check raise him as I know he is going to c-bet. He obliges and bets the pot of 240 chips. I re-raise it POT, he re-raises, I push. All the money is in on the flop and he turns the gutterball on me and IGH.

It didn't even phase me. I railed him pretty hard, but only because I wanted to see him actually respond. He finally did after I repeatedly told him how "aces are gold in blogger tournies" and tried to get him to say something. He responded "I had a wrap draw" which to me, meant a gutterball? Anyway, such is life.

Can anyone give me some input on odds here? Bayne?

It actually worked out for the better, and when I went out, I almost felt relieved. Not sure why donating money would make me feel good, I just wish I would have lasted longer than 30 minutes... I guess it would be a lot to ask of a blogger to fold to a check raise on that flop. In fact, I am not even sure if it would be the right play over the long run. I mean he has to figure I have a set on that flop, but as Bayne has put it so well - "the goal is to get your money in good.

I'll have to get into it when I have more time. Congrats to all of those cashers out there. Well done.

--------

So my FantasySportslive career has basically come to an end. With football almost over I was really looking forward to playing in the NHL daily fantasy pools as I had been doing quite well in them... maybe too well because I think Blinders took it off the market based on a lack of interest. Every second day there was at least one overlay... so that can't be good for business. I can't fault him for taking it off if there is little or no interest, it just sucks that I'll probably cash out for the time being and wait for next season. Hopefully he brings it back soon, but I doubt it... and just when I cracked the top 40 leaderboard too... crap.

So out of spite I gave basketball a try and thought to myself "man if I cash in a basketball fantasy pool then something is really wrong here, I haven't watched a single game all year!"

Here are the results:

Time to cash out! Like my team name?

------------

As far as poker goals go, I've decided not to make many. Here is what I know so far:

1. Play in at least one event of the Johnny Chan Poker Classic at the Rock in May. Most likely the $1K if I can satellite into it. Otherwise I will buy into the $500 event. Cashing would also be nice, but I'm going to play like I can win, otherwise what is the point.

2. Win at least one blogger event. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I do remember doing quite well a few times in the Mookie (2nd, 3rd, etc). I won a Dookie or two (doesn't count in my books for some reason) and I won the bloggerpod2 freeroll (free IPOD, but I took the cash instead) as well. This year I want to win something of more meaning, and do it more than once.

3. Play in the BCPC in November. Win it in a heads up battle against 55.

4. Improve my cash game, and learn more, read more and become more comfortable at live $2/$5 NL at my local casinos.

5. Start playing 6 max NL online.

That's it so far... and will probably be it. I think I can accomplish at least one of these, if not two by the end of the year... so let's give it a go!

Theres lot's of hard work ahead of me, so now I just need to find some motivation... because really, I have none right now. The fact that last night was my first game of poker in 2008 is definitely a good indicator to me that I am just not interested these days. With the new place coming together nicely, and the rush of buying new stuff (I am currently waiting for more Wii's to come in so I can join the club, and I am now a member of the digital recorder world) and setting it up, I just haven't been into sitting in front of a computer after a 10 hour day of the grind.

I have no doubt that this feeling will change again with time, but for now this is how it's gonna be... and I'm fine with that.

3.1.08

Is this the year? Poker? Ask yourself.

Do you measure your Poker year by:

A) One BIG huge event that stood out as a great achievement that you were most proud of?

or

B) A combination of mini events that were a consistent success? Although, there was nothing BIG to ultimately be proud of?

Why?

----

What defines success?

How much money you've made? Is that the TRUE scoreboard?

This is an extremely scientific survey, so make sure that you are honest... and very serious... always be serious. :)

------------

I'm still trying to figure out what "poker goals" to set this year. In fact, I'm deciding whether I should bother setting any at all...

Is winning the most important? Yes.

Is breaking even acceptable? It depends.

Being above average has always been something that I have strived for.

Being GREAT at something is something I am still trying define. And find.

How do you define Greatness? Do you compare yourself to others?

I don't know if Poker is the answer. But it certainly is a challenge.

The long walk home

Alrighty then. When I last wrote about my trip, my mind was all over the map. I am not even sure if it made sense, but I'm not about to go back now and edit it... so you get what you get, as always.

After tilting off another buyin at the 1/2 table and not really feeling that drunk at all, I decided that it was time to just... let it be. I really have no other way to describe it. I had been there for less that 24 hours and was already tilting. I tried to find LJ and sent here a text, no response. She was still steaming from the beating she took from Bayne.

I walked around and kept hearing the blokes sing "whooooaaaaa Ricky Hatttttuuun" and it was starting to get to me. I realized the dead money I had left behind and tilted some more. I didn't, however, reach into my pocket and pull out more cash. Phew.

Anyway, I rail Fuel for a while and realize that the Cowboy's are spewing cash, so he's not going anywhere. I meet up with Blinders, HighonPoker and Recess and we all grab a ride with Blinders.

Then my prayers are answered. Blinders is Da Man! Jordan is in, Recess is out, so he meets up with LJ and they text me telling me that they are going to get food. Little did I know that this meant a BK burger (it's probably about 2am at this point, but my memory is still a fuzz bucket)... If I had known that, I would have left the craps table and met up (for the "best double cheese burger ever"). I didn't, and I paid, dearly.

However, this was not of the financial sorts. I paid, all the way home. I guess it was about 4 or 4:30 by the time I realized that it was getting late. LJ was leaving and I really should have just left then and there. I asked Alan where the BK was and he gave me very very simple directions... that I could not follow... so I walked right past the fucking BK, starving. So what do I do? I keep walking!! All the way fucking home. It had to be at least 500 miles (ok it was less than 2km)... but man I don't think I've ever swore at myself so many times, in so little time.

And I was scared too. All I could think about (aboot) was how stoopid I was. Why was I walking? Why didn't I turn around and spend the $10 for a cab. All I could keep thinking to myself is "why the fuck didn't I listen to Pauly, it's not rocket science!"

I had my whole roll in my front left pocket. I was nervous... I did not want to be the next one...

So I threw my hands in my jeans and picked up the pace. I started to walk beside this hot chick and she grabbed her cell phone and pretended to talk to someone... so, being the genius that I can sometimes be, I decided to do the same. We both were walking together, speaking to no one.

I had to laugh. But it worked! I'm not about to get in a fight over money. If someone has the balls to confront me, then I am sure I'll fold. So me and the phone chick hit the "S curve" (most of you should know the one) that is on the way back to the Paris from the IP. Of course, there's a bunch of drunks just laying all over the shicane pounding away at their BIG beers and look like they just need money. If it was daytime, I might have flipped them some change. Overall, I wasn't overly concerned, but you just never know. After all, it's Vegas!

So me and my new girl split up shortly after I make the turn left, up the escalator and down the overpass. I have visions of getting jumped by the floor cleaning dude (weird that someone cleans the concrete at 4:30am?? ummmm yeah.) and thought I was being set up. Keep in mind, I am totally sober by now. So why am I trippin'? It's Vegas!

Anyway, I get back home, I grab two bottles of water and a sleeve of Pringles. When I get to the room I fear that I might wake the sleeping giant. I slowly open the door, and creep inside as quiete as a mouse, into my house. But much to my surprise, no one was there... not even Fuel-fifty-five.

Did I just bust out a rhyme?

I got skills.

Ok, so I wake up around noon... still starving. I had now had 2 meals in 36 hours. It was time for lunch! We head over the Venetian and get some Noodles with Alan and JV.

Tourney starts, I don't win. Nuff said.

We head to the Mirage for some Japanese, then head back and watch the final table.

The Rooster is the Champ!

Overall, I had a great (and by great I mean, ONE of a kind...) trip. If I come up with anything else worthy of a post... you'll be the first to know.

later.

27.12.07

Why post...?

If it's not about poker...right? Which is basically how I've felt over the past week. Not sure why... although it really has nothing to do with what he said, considering I have been feeling the same way about this space for a long time now, and if you have read between the lines... you'll know what I'm getting at.

Anyway, I'll probably finish off my trip report and go from there.

Then who knows when I will post something next, I guess it will just hit me and I will feel the urge.

I'll be at the Riverchasers tonight so maybe I will just paste a bunch of hand histories to keep the masses happy... although I don't see how that could provide anyone of you takers some sort of benefit... so it would purely be all about me and making me better (with your help).

I hope you all had a totally ghey Christmas filled with love and laughs and all that other mandatory, feel good, let's not rock the boat, sort of mushy crap.

It's almost time to reflect on 2007 and maybe even put down a poker goal or two for 2008... what a concept!

20.12.07

Non Poker Post AKA Chad don't read this

I just scored a ticket to the Canucks game tonight (vs. Dallas) so I won't be able to rail my top 6. Seeing as its a 3 table sitngo I guess I will have to read all about it when I get back. Anyone going to live blog this sucker? These types of chances only come along once, maybe twice, in a lifetime. So play smart and play hard!

Good luck to everyone.

Here are my top 6:

1. Lucko21
2. Fuel55
3. Cracknjokesallthetimeandwontreadmybloganymoreaces
4. RecessRampage
5. Iggy the drunk
6. Astin

Take it down fellas.

Beers, beers, beers.

Save the Drama fo yo Mamma

Seeing all this bickering back and forth was a bit annoying to say the least. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

This is not what I signed up for. After sifting through all the drama, I'm leaning towards taking a break from all this crap.

Hopefully people will start to calm down and the verbal wars will come to a close shortly.

Katitude said it best.

RESPECT each other and things will be happy happy.

It's like taking candy from American babies

No, this is not a Vegas trip report. That will have to wait.

So I thought I would put up a brag post. Everyone's doin' it:

Like my team name?

Seriously, this is easy money (mobney is worth more) and the more American's that play this, the better it is for me!

So come along for the ride and donate!

I really should play in these everyday... but I usually only join one on Canucks' game nights.

If I had taken Luongo last night I would have lapped the field. Often I feel like if I take any Canucks I'll jinx them...

Good luck tomorrow to all those luckboxsack TOC qualifiers.

May the BEST BLOGGING POKER PLAYER win.

Prelude to a long walk home

When I say home, I really mean our hotel - The Paris. I tend to use that term when I go away on vacation, for no other reason than a slip of the tongue. I will often correct myself the first time, but after that I just use the term as one in the same.

Thursday night was interesting. So many people, so many unknowns. I did recognize more than my fair share just based on the pictures I had skimmed over from the previous gatherings. I immediately recoginized Astin as I had met up with him in my home town sometime in the summer for dinner over at the Rock with Fuel. Then I recognized Pauly... you can't not recognize that guy. He's like the Tiger Woods of Poker Bloggers. Not just in the "wow there's Tiger woods over there, let's get his autograph" but in the "man that dude can write some pretty cool shit. His flow is unmatched, and his style is contagious." Check out his wicked trip posts if you haven't already (of course you have, who am I kidding). And while you're at it, check out Derek's post too. Just awesome stuff.

Dr. Pauly is so easy to pick out in a crowd because there is always someone trying to get his attention. I stood back and soaked in the atmosphere and watched the masses flow in from various directions surrounding the hooker bar. I then met GCox. He bought me a beer, and then decided to ask who I was... what a great guy. He made me feel very comfortable right away, and I couldn't think of a better person to meet next based on all the great things that everyone has already written about him.

I then met the rest, of which I am not about to name for the fear of missing one or two. I do remember sitting down with Iggy for a bit and that was a great way to start. I also met up with Alan and LJ and we decided to get some food. We tried the IP, but the service was so brutally slow that we bolted before the bad beat occured. We cut our losses (time only) and went over to Harrahs for some grub. That is when I realized what a big eater LJ is. She ordered what I had (quesadilla's) AND a philly cheese steak... with fries. LJ (the bubbler) had just bubbled her first of many to come and it was great to grab a table and finally put the face to a couple of names that I had been chatting with over the past few months. Good times. It was about 4am by the time we were done so we grabbed a cab and headed back home.

----
We woke up at the crack of nine on Friday morning. After getting a decent night's sleep (approx. 4 hours) Fuel and I headed over to the Rio to grab some of his stashed cash. I went and got in line at the cafe and he grinded out his options of how to get a nice chunk of change that he had left there from his last trip... the Series.

Breakfast was, just ok. I mean you can't go wrong with a bunch of your morning staples, but there is something to be said about a plate full of greasy sausage patties.... yummmmmmmyuck. The first one went down just fine, however by the time I hit the third one I felt ill. I should have just stacked them like pancakes (a la Fuel) and hammered them down. I even tried coffee! Yes, you may find that a bit odd that I am even mentioning such a small detail. So I'll let you in on a little unknown fact - I don't drink coffee. I've had less than ONE cup in 2007 and I broke that semi-streak on Friday.... and I actually liked it! Well, the first few sips anyway... The caffine was all I needed so I toughed it out and drank it down. I'm thinking of starting it up on a regular basis very soon for the sole purpose of a caffine boost. A Red Bull each morning could have a longer term effect me thinks... and this is why I drink water for the most part. As I get older, I think coffee will be the answer.

Ok, so Fuel, Kurokitty and myself win breakfast after Kuro and Gnome show up and we RPS for the bills. 1 up. Thanks Mark!

We hop into Dan's rent-a-stang and head over to the Venetian, I get my players card and sit down at a 1/2 table. Nothing much to show for it except a few beers and a $42 loss. MiamiDon, CC, Recess and Kurokitty were there throughout the session. I was still getting my feet wet and was encouraging the people that I did know to introduce me to the those that I didn't yet meet. At times it was difficult to get up and meet everyone that passed by, but Don was good about letting people know who I was (Zeem, Weak, Bayne etc.). I was a bit overwhelmed with meeting so many people in such a small period of time. My only fear was that I would forget who I had already met and introduce myself for a second time... sound familiar?

We head to the Bellagio and have a nice private dinner at Prime. I decided not to high card for my portion and curse myself the rest of the night for not taking the risk... it's Vegas! This would be ONLY place that I should be doing that. Instead I chickened out along with LJ, CC and Alan and opted for the buyout. 1 down.

We swung by the poker room and we cruz past "Bobby's Room." I spot a few knowns such as Sammy Farha and Patrik Antonius (I had to wipe the drool from LJ's lower lip) and then spot Barry "the Robin Hood of poker" Greenstein" walking right beside me. I contemplate getting a picture, and then decide against such a dorkmove and just moved on.

We grabbed a cab. We get in and it really fucking stinks. Like shit. We look at each other and finally LJ says something like "dude you should really undo your windows and drive around a bit if you are going to FART before you pick people up." Classic. I busted out laughing (quietly to myself as best I could) and the rest of us just snicker while we hold our breath and beg for a window to be cracked. Stinky beat.

MGM mixed games... what are those? I bailed. I didn't think I could hack it. In hindsight it is one of the very things I regret not doing the most. I really should have given it a try. For various obvious reasons. One, I got smoked at 1/2 NL anyway. Two, I could have met a lot of cool bloggers a lot faster (call it blogger speed dating if you will). Three, I could have actually won some money donking it up and calling down some crazy pineapple hand I had no business being in. Fun! Oh well, next year I plan on playing more of these types of games and socializing (now that I know a few more people) and less time trying to grind out small marginal wins.

I must say it was fun to watch Bayne run over the table, raise blind with pocket kings against Grubby, and eventually felt-tilt LJ in the process. I think he walked away with 4 or 6 times his buyin. Lucksackbox.

I was drunk. I am 100% sure that 90% of my losses came between the hours of 1am and 4am each night. I would just donk it up like I never have before. I mean I've never claimed to be a good cash game player, readers here know that already. I know I can hold my own though, especially against a bunch of tourists. I guess tilting within the first 3 hands really did it to me. I couldn't recover. I was dealt QQ in the SB. UTG raised it to $17 and it folded to me. I re-raised to $45 and UTG called. The flop comes out all rags with 2 clubs. He bets $12! I raise all in for another $140ish (not sure but it was the rest of my initial $200) and he insta-calls!

He flips over - A4clubs.... a club on the turn and I lose it. I was in shock.

I really should have just got out of my seat and tried my luck and 3/6 random games. I wanted revenge. Except the dirty little fish grabbed his (MY) chips and took off!

Phag.

I was choked and I couldn't recover. Obviously, I knew what I should have done. But I didn't and it cost me.

About 4 seat changes later Grubby sits down. Pauly comes over and I finally introduce myself. We chat for a good 5 minutes and the truth is confirmed. He IS the Tiger Woods of poker bloggers. No doubt about it.

Later that night more fun ensues, followed by the dumbest decision I've ever made in Vegas.

To be continued...

Scribble dabble scrabble

Randomness in my head (AKA still no time for a real post):

* Meeting Dan & Mark for the first time at the Rio for breakfast and then winning RPS (no one brought a deck of cards) for a free meal... nice start!

* Hiring Bayne to carry the book I won at the WPBT tourney for $2 (my newest caddy)

* LJ sneezing a minimum of 4 times per session (she can get on a roll)

* Watching Fuel felt some “egomaniac superstar” at the 2/5 table with 63o… the guy just couldn’t fold his KK.

* Listening to Alan tell some sick sick stories and actually being able to relate.

* Drinking wines from all over the planet and listening to Fuel talk shit about each one.

* Hanging out in Blinders’ car with Jordan…

* Playing a $1 RPS best of 5 with Iggy at 4am trying to coax him back to his winning ways. He won (of course) his first match of the night... but it was only a buck! He read me like a book.

Moving day is tomorrow, have a good weekend everyone!

Quick Random thoughts (pseudo recap)

I' m still not in any way ready to write any type of recap or trip report (who knows if I'll ever get to it, maybe I'll just write a bunch of these random thought type posts) so I thought that I'd jot down some things that come to mind as I pour through the various blogs that have already started posting (where they find the time I have no idea).

As Alan has most recently stated, new friendships have been discovered and made. It's not as if it wasn't going to happen. I mean when you plan to have dinner with a few people you've never met, you are bound to hit it off with at least a couple of them. For me, it was everyone. Each person I spent time with I enjoyed immensily. Whether it be a quick 5 minute chat, or a 4 hour dinner conversation, every single time I had something memorable to take away.

Often it would be something that I would never expect. Sometimes it would be very personal (secrets were divulged), other times it would just be common knowledge in the bloguniverse... and I would get that feeling like I was the last to know! I'd walk away and think to myself "wow this group just keeps getting cooler and cooler man." Great times to say the least and ones that I will never forget.

I'd be lying if I said that I really found that I had something in common with EVERYONE that I met. That's just no possible, and if anyone says that... they're full of shit. It's just not possible. However, everyone I did meet was very kind, open and honest. It made it easy on the new guy for sure.

I do agree though, that there was just never going to be enough time to meet everyone. I read through some of the posts and think to myself "Man that person was there? I didn't even get a chance to meet them!" fuck. If I made a list I am sure I would forget someone, it's just not possible to meet everyone in such a short period of time. There were times where I would recognize someone and not have the balls to initiate the conversation. Not at first anyway. I would often just hangout in the background (for those that really know me, they get it... that's just who I am!) and wait for an opportunity to step in and say hi. I didn't want to intrude, as I found that most of the times someone was having so much fun, I didn't want to stop the flow of constant laughs. So I just laughed along and observed.

Of course, the really great times, the times I will never forget for as long as I live, are the times that I can't really talk about here on the blog. No, it's not what you're thinking, if that's what your thinking... it's more about what I have talked about here before. Not being able to speak freely in this space without regret. I'll give you a prime example: Hangin' with Dr. Pauly.

I'm sure you can figure it out, and if you can't then too bad cuz you either don't know me well enough, or don't know Dr. Pauly at all!

That's it for now, time to hit the grind.

Packing, packing packing!

Good night now.

The clock ticks...

... and I wait. Although there is so much to do before I go in dealing with the move etc. I have another meeting today after work and that should be the end of it. 3 days after I get back, we pack up and move to a place that is over twice the size of our current abode. I am more pumped about that then this trip, it's so long overdue and I am very happy that I can finally provide the living space necessary for Lola and myself. We've done it together, and I look forward to this next step in our progression of life.

Last night was interesting. I really didn't know that Don could be that annoying when he was drunk (and by drunk I mean a fucking shitfaced slur monkey)... but then again, I don't really know Don from any of the other rowdies that I'll be meeting less than 24 hours from now.

Funny what you learn about people while they are drunk on the radio. It was all in good fun of course, and I don't take any of it personally, except of course, when he got personal. Sure you can call me a donkey, call me whatever you want. Just don't get personal in a space where I have no possible way of responding. I felt like a listener on the Howard Stern show who had no control and no chance to for rebuttle. No worries though, if he tosses me a couple of jem picks this weekend, I'll forgive him. LOL. dink.

He even said he'd play me in golf if I gave him 4 shots... Well, all I can say to that is... you know it's coming... bring it! I'll even play you with someone else's clubs if you want. Any golf prop bet you want dude, I'm in. So let's do this and have some fun.... cockknocker.

I played well last night. I had the chip lead after the second hour and felt like this night could be the night. I had the crew backing me and railing me which was nice and all, but I still was getting mixed feelings as I could overhear the snickering on the radio. Whatever, like I said its all in good drunkin' fun. If I was there, I would have been on the bus and all over it. A part of me wishes I had left one day early just so I could have been a part of all the shenanigans. I'd be lying if I didn't say that it got to me while I was playing... just a little.

I made one big mistake in a SB vs. BB special. I am not sure if Stb was making a move on me with position or not, maybe he'll tell me when we meet this weekend... but I doubt he'll remember since I'm sure we'll be drunk by the time our paths cross.

Anyway, I finished around 10th or 12th with a very sour ending. No need to get into it, you all saw it. Just an unlucky flop and loose preflop call from the button IMO. That's poker. The only thing I regret now is actually signing up in the first place as I could have spent that time much more wisely on doing the boring choring things like packing.

However Lola gave me the go ahead as she knew what was at stake here. How can I honestly pass up a chance at a chance of a lifetime? No chance. I told myself that I would regret it if I didn't at least give it a shot though. Lola, wow she is amazing. I am truly truly lucky to have a woman like her in my life. The most understanding and patient person I know by far. It blows me away sometimes.

I really wish she was coming with me, next time...

12 hours and I'll be on at least my second beer somewhere over Washington State.

How many does it take?

When will I learn? I seem to be able to give the advice, but I don't seem to be able to follow it. I had my best Math showing in a very long time last night. I really do love 6 max, it suits my game very well. I decided to take a page out of Blinders' book, and play it the same way I would if it was a full table game, and it worked really well... until there was 10 left.

I have no explanation other than to say, I'm a retard. I was playing well and not getting a whole lot of hands late in the game. I was making the correct folds, laying down AQ on the button to an UTG raise (see Jamy, I can lay down Ace-rag... sometimes). Folding low pocket pairs to the same, etc. For some reason I decide to steal with A7h on the button with an M of just under 7 and open push. Numbono wakes up with AKo in the SB and has me well covered and makes the easy call. IGH in 10th.

Two from the money, but who cares. I wanted to win, I wanted to head to Vegas with a win under my belt. I guess there is still the mookie, but I doubt I'll play as I'll still have a lot of packing (not for Vegas, but for the move) to get done.

Not much else to say right now. Still struggling with the randomness that clutters my brain and can't get out.

My plane leaves in exactly 60 hours.
